Muizzu, who came to the US to attend the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, made the remarks while answering a question at Princeton University's “Dean's Leadership Series” on Thursday.

According to a report by a Maldivian news portal, Muizzoo said, “We have never been against any one country. This is not 'India Out'. Maldives has faced serious problems due to the presence of foreign forces on its soil. The people of Maldives do not want a single foreign soldier in the country.”

“The people of Maldives do not want a single foreign soldier in the country,” he said. Relations between India and Maldives have been under severe strain since Muizzu, who is considered pro-China, took over as President of Maldives in November last year. Muizu had asked India to withdraw around 90 Indian military personnel operating three aviation platforms gifted by the country.

Earlier, Mohammad Muizzu had come to New Delhi along with leaders of six other regional countries to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 9, 2024.
