Nicholas Pooran smashes world record for most T20 runs in a calendar year, surpasses Rizwan

Nicholas Pooran has scripted a new world record for most runs in a calendar year in T20 cricket, surpassing Mohammad Rizwan. Pooran’s knock of 27 runs off 15 balls for Trinbago Knight Riders against Barbados Royals in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 took his tally to 2,059 runs, surpassing Rizwan’s total of 2,036 runs.

Pooran has been in sensational form in 2024. He has played for Durban Super Giants, Lucknow Super Giants, MI Emirates, MI New York, Northern Super Chargers, Rangpur Riders, and West Indies in the ongoing year. His total comprises runs scored in shortest format in international cricket, T20 leagues, and domestic games in the slam bang version.

Rizwan had amassed 2,036 runs from 45 innings at an impressive average of 56.66, including one hundred and 18 half-centuries in 2021. Pooran took 65 innings to go past Sarfaraz. His runs have come at an average of 42. Pooran didn’t reach the three-digit mark in 2024, but managed 14 fifties.

While Pooran boosted a strike rate of 160.63 in 2024, Rizwan accumulated his runs at 132.03. This is the third year that Pooran has surpassed 1,000 runs in T20 format, having achieved the record in 2019 and 2023.

In nine innings of CPL 2024, Pooran has scored 312 runs at an average of 39 and a strike rate of 175.28.

South Africa’s Reeza Hendricks is in the second spot with 1,555 runs from 47 innings. The third place his occupied by Pakistan’s Babar Azam with 1,480 runs in 35 innings. Australian opener Travis Head is the fourth best batter with 1,442 runs from 39 innings.
