Lata Mangeshkar is remembered in Bollywood as a playback singer who ruled the hearts of music lovers for almost seven decades with the magic of her voice. Born on 28 September 1929 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Lata Mangeshkar (original name Hema Haridkar), father Dinanath Mangeshkar, was associated with Marathi theatre. At the age of five, Lata started acting in plays with her father. Along with this, Lata started taking music lessons from her father.

She sang her first song in the year 1942 for the film Kitty Hasal, but her father did not like Lata's singing for films and he removed the song sung by Lata from that film. In the year 1942, at the young age of 13, Lata lost her father and the responsibility of the family fell upon her. After this his entire family moved from Pune to Mumbai. Lata did not like acting in films at all, despite this, taking up the financial responsibility of the family, she started acting in films. In the year 1942, Lata got a chance to act in 'Pehli Mangalgour'.

In the year 1945, Lata met musician Ghulam Haider. Ghulam Haider was greatly impressed by Lata's singing style. Ghulam Haider requested film producer S. Mukherjee to give Lata a chance to sing in his film Shaheed. S. Mukherjee did not like Lata's voice and refused to cast Lata in his film. Ghulam Haider became very angry about this and said that this girl will become so famous in the future that big producers and directors will request her to sing in their films.

In the year 1949, Lata became successful in making her mark in Bollywood after the song Aayega Aane Wala from the film Mahal. After this, after singing songs like Jiya Bekraar Hai, Hawa Me Udta Jaye from Raj Kapoor's Barsaat, Lata established herself as a successful playback singer in Bollywood. Under the music direction of C.Ramchandra, Lata sang a non-film song Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon during a program on a song written by Pradeep.

Hearing this song, the then Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru was so impressed that he had tears in his eyes. Even today people's eyes become moist with this song sung by Lata. Naushad's music was adorned with Lata's voice. Musician Naushad was so crazy about Lata's voice that he used to cast Lata in all his films. During the recording of the song Mohe Panghat Pe from the film Mughal-e-Azam, released in 1960, Naushad had told Lata that I have made this song only for you, no one else can sing this song.

Raj Kapoor, known as the showman of Hindi cinema, always needed Lata's voice for his films. Raj Kapoor was so impressed by Lata's voice that he even gave Lata Mangeshkar the status of Saraswati. In the sixties, Lata started being called the queen of playback singers. In the year 1969, Lata Mangeshkar proved that she can sing on western tunes like Asha Bhosle by singing the song Aa Jaane Jaa from the film Inteqaam under the music direction of Laxmikant Pyare Lal. By the nineties, Lata started singing only for a few selected films.

In the year 1990, Lata sang the song Yaara Sili Sili.. for her banner's film Lekin. Although this film did not work, even today this song is considered one of Lata's best songs. Lata Mangeshkar was honored with the Filmfare Award four times in her film career. Lata Mangeshkar was awarded the National Award for her songs in the film Parichay in 1972, Kora Kagaz in 1975 and the film Lekin in 1990. Apart from this, he was awarded Padma Bhushan in the year 1969, Dadasaheb Phalke Award in the year 1989, Padma Vibhushan in the year 1999, Bharat Ratna in the year 2001. On 06 February 2022, music queen Lata Mangeshkar said goodbye to the world.
