South Africa defeated Ireland by eight wickets in the T20 match due to brilliant performances from Ryan Rickelton and Reeza Hendricks.
Rickelton played a career-best innings of 75 runs and Hendricks scored his 16th half-century. In response to Ireland's 171 runs for eight wickets, South Africa scored 178 runs for two wickets in the 18th over.
At one time it seemed that Ireland would cross 180 runs but they lost three wickets in the last over. Medium fast bowler Patrick Kruger took four wickets for 27 runs.
Rickelton played an excellent innings for South Africa. He completed his first half-century in T20 cricket in 30 balls. Hendricks hit a fifty in 31 balls but was out in the next over. Rickelton returned to the pavilion after scoring 76 runs in 48 balls. Both teams will play the second T20 on Sunday.
