In this series, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has given a big statement on Friday regarding the prices of gold. In which he has said that the government has taken an important decision to reduce the prices of gold. It is being told that in order to reduce the rising prices of gold, the government is drastically reducing the import duty on gold, after which women of the country can easily buy Mangalsutra.

Addressing a program of jewelery company Malabar Gold and Diamonds here, Goyal said that after gold becoming cheaper, women can now easily buy heavier and more attractive mangalsutra. He also said, “I have been told that after the cut in import duty, a boom is being seen in the gold business. Due to this decision of the government, business has also gained a lot of momentum. Now, in my opinion our sisters will not have any problem in purchasing their mangalsutra and you can now easily buy heavy mangalsutra also.”

Custom duty reduced on gold

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had recently announced a huge reduction in custom duty on gold import. In this way the duty has been reduced from 15 percent to 6 percent. Goyal said that regarding the business related to gold, it was always said that the custom duty on its import should be reduced, this was the most discussed matter. Now after the government's decision to reduce the import duty of gold, the demand for gold is increasing. He called upon the Gold and Jewelery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) to help in promoting Indian tourist destinations through the shops of jewelers abroad, saying that this will help the country and the entire gold trading sector.

Speaking at an event to announce scholarships for 21,000 girl students, Goyal asked GJEPC to prepare a sector-wide plan in which companies come together on specific issues like girls' education to help make India a developed country.
