Diwali is celebrated on the new moon day of Kartik month. Diwali is not a single day but a series of festivals. There are five festivals associated with it, hence in Hindu religion Diwali is called a festival of five festivals, which starts from Dhanteras and ends on Bhai Dooj. These five festivals include Dhanteras, Narak Chaturdashi, Diwali and Bhaiya Dooj. There are legends associated with all of these. Dhanteras
Today has its own significance because on this day Lord Dhanvantari was born who appeared carrying the pot of nectar and Ayurveda with him during the churning of the ocean. Since then this day was named 'Dhanteras' and the tradition of buying utensils, metals and jewelery started on this day. This day is considered auspicious so women buy some gold or silver or some new utensils and in some parts of India, animals are also worshipped. On this day, lamps are lit throughout the night to worship Yama, the god of death, hence it is also known as 'Yamdeep Daan'.
hell chaturdashi
Narak Chaturdashi is also called Chhoti Diwali at some places because it is celebrated a day before Diwali and on this day basically lamps are lit for Yam Puja, which is called Deep Daan. It is believed that on this day Lord Shri Krishna had killed the tyrannical king Narakasura. The killing of this cruel demon spread immense joy among the people and people filled with joy lit ghee lamps. It is said that on this day, by taking bath before sunrise, all the sins are eliminated and virtues are attained.
Diwali
On the day of Diwali, Lakshmi-Ganesh ji is worshiped in all the houses and according to Hindu belief, on this night of Amavasya, Lakshmi ji travels on earth and blesses people with prosperity. There is a belief in Hindu religion that if someone worships Goddess Lakshmi with devotion on this day, there is never any shortage of money and grains in his house. There is a special tradition of worshiping Lakshmi on this day among Hindus, however, the entire night of Diwali is spent awake because it is believed that when Goddess Lakshmi travels on earth, she visits only those houses in which the family members are awake. They are there, performing puja or busy in some useful work related to their business. Indian businessmen start new accounts from this day and also organize Lakshmi Puja in their shops, factories, offices etc. Apart from this, it is also said that on this day Lord Vishnu sent King Bali to the underworld. And Indra celebrated Diwali happily knowing that heaven was safe.
govardhan puja

When it started raining heavily, Lord Shri Krishna lifted Govardhan Mountain on his little finger and protected the villagers under the shade of Govardhan. Since then the tradition of worshiping Govardhan has been going on on this day. Lord Krishna is remembered while worshiping Govardhan on the second day of Diwali. On this day, Govardhan is made from cow dung in the courtyard of the house and after worshiping it, food items are offered. As a sign of importance of celebrating Annakoot, people decorate food in large quantities and perform puja.
Bhai Dooj
It is a festival of brothers and sisters, which reflects the love between brothers and sisters. On the day of Rakshabandhan, the brother calls his sister to his home, while on Bhai Dooj, the sister calls her brother to her home and serves him food with tilak and wishes for his long life. brothers give them as a sign of their love
I give a gift. It is said that on this day Yama came to meet his sister Yami (Yamuna) and was welcomed by his sister with aarti and they also had food together. He also gave a gift to his sister. There is a belief on this day that the sister who invites her brother and serves him food after applying tilak, her brother will have a long life. Since then it has become a tradition on Bhai Dooj.
