IBA expects to attract investment of Rs 1,600 crore for biogas sector in REI 2024

Delhi Delhi. The Indian Biogas Association (IBA) expects investments of around Rs 1,600 crore in the sector during the Renewable Energy India Expo (REI) 2024 starting on Thursday. IBA, the country's leading body representing biogas operators, manufacturers and plant planners, is optimistic about the opportunities this high-profile event will provide. “Investment worth around Rs 1,600 crore is expected to be announced in the biogas sector at REI 2024,” IBA Chairman Gaurav Kedia said while speaking to PTI. He said REI Expo 2024 is expected to have 20 percent more participation than last year. Kedia stressed on the huge untapped potential of the biogas sector. He pointed out that despite its current contribution to the energy mix being less than one per cent, the sector is poised for substantial growth and can play a significant role in India's energy future by 2030.

The association is confident that this expo will generate significant momentum for the biogas industry. Bio-Energy Pavilion 2024 is also supported by government ministries and key organizations, including the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, National Institute of Bio-Energy and World Bio-Energy The three-day event will take place at the India Expo Center in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh and is recognized as one of India's leading platforms for renewable energy innovations.

It will showcase developments in various sectors such as bio-energy, solar energy, wind energy, electric vehicles and energy storage solutions. The event aims to promote India's journey towards achieving net-zero emissions targets.Indian AR Shukla, President, Biogas, reflected on the success of last year's Bioenergy Pavilion, and mentioned the various initiatives that were announced.

“We expect to generate significant interest from investors during this year's event.” Shukla said the expo is expected to attract more than 50,000 visitors due to the increased focus on the bio-energy sector and the continued support of the government.Previous Over the years, REI Expo has established itself as a leading platform for stakeholders in the renewable energy sector, showcasing cutting-edge technologies, products and solutions while fostering meaningful industry connections.

There is significant potential for biogas development in India, where there is potential to generate about 62 million tonnes of compressed biogas per annum, which is equivalent to meeting about 7 percent of the country's current fuel consumption. Thus, the biogas sector has the potential to address environmental concerns. Presents an important solution to reduce dependence on imported fuel.
