IPL Retention Rules Announced: The Annual General Meeting (IPL Governing Council AGM) of the Indian Premier League i.e. IPL Governing Council was held in Bengaluru on Sunday. In this meeting, major changes in the rules of retention, impact player and RTM have been approved. Under the new retention rule, franchise teams will be able to retain six players. The 'Right to Match' (RTM) card is also returning to the auction this time.

They will benefit from increasing the number of retained players

A few months ago, the issue of retention was raised in the meeting of BCCI and franchise team owners, in which teams like KKR and Sunrisers Hyderabad were seen in favor of retaining more players, while many teams including Punjab Kings did not want to retain more players before the auction. Be allowed to retain. However, according to the new rules issued by the BCCI, teams can retain six players through retention or by using the Right to Match (RTM) card. The RTM card allows teams to match the highest bid for a player released prior to the auction.

It will be up to the franchise to choose the combination for retention and RTM, they can retain a maximum of six or less players. Additionally, there is no set limit for teams to retain Indian/foreign players. However, teams can retain only a maximum of five capped and two uncapped players. The franchises that retain five players before the auction will be allowed to spend Rs 75 crore from the purse out of the total amount of Rs 120 crore. Under the new rules, teams will be allowed to keep the auction amount of Rs 120, which is Rs 20 crore more than last season. Salaries for the first three retentions will be – Rs 18 crore, Rs 14 crore and Rs 11 crore, while for the remaining two retentions – Rs 18 crore and Rs 14 crore.

In the annual meeting of the IPL Governing Council, it has been decided to continue the impact player rule, which has increased the chances of MS Dhoni playing one more season. Impact Player will continue for the 2025 to 2027 cycle. Apart from this, BCCI is going to include in the list of uncapped players those players who have said goodbye to international cricket (Test, ODI and T-20 International) five years ago and are also out of the central contract of the board. In such a situation, if MS Dhoni is retained as an uncapped player, then Chennai Super Kings can keep him by paying Rs 4 crore.
