India to host World Pickleball Championship Series in November

Mumbai, October 8 (IANS). All India Pickleball Association (AIPA) will host the World Pickleball Championship (WPC) Series in India for the first time.

This championship will be held in Mumbai from 12 to 17 November. The championships were highly successful in Vietnam and Bali, where the Indian teams won gold, silver and bronze medals.

Run by the World Pickleball League (WPBL), the World Pickleball Championship Series in India will see participation from around 650 players from six to seven countries such as Australia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Poland and Singapore.

AIPA President Arvind Prabhu said, “We are excited to host this international level championship as well as the players on their home turf, and hope to inspire people from different generations and geographies to pursue competitive careers and leisure pursuits.” AIPA, along with its stakeholders, is dedicated to ensuring the success of the WPC Series in India.”

Jan Poppe, Founder of Pickleball Global and WPC Series, also expressed his excitement, saying, “India has incredible potential for the sport at all levels, and we look forward to working with AIPA to further enhance the image of pickleball in India and internationally. With AIPA's initiative to bring the WPC home, I look forward to experiencing the energy and passion that India brings to this prestigious global championship.”

Pickleball, which blends elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis, is one of the fastest growing sports globally, and the number of enthusiasts taking up the game in India is increasing.
