Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp Returns to football in new role with Red Bull

New Delhi: Former Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp is all set to return to football as he takes on a new role as the Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull, his first assignment since leaving the Reds. He will start his new role in the New Year of 2025 after a successful stint in the Premier League.

The 57-year-old will be looking after Red Bull’s international network of soccer clubs. While he won’t directly manage the club, he will provide a strategic vision and work closely with sporting directors to promote Red Bull’s “philosophy,” according to an official statement.

The energy drink brand Red Bull owns multiple sporting teams, including their two F1 teams, Oracle Red Bull Racing and RB Formula One Team. In football, they have multiple clubs which include Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, Austrian team Red Bull Salzburg, Major League Soccer team New York Red Bull and the Brazilian team Red Bull Bragantino. They have a small stake in the Championship team, Leeds United, and are also the front-of-the-shirt sponsor.

Jurgen Klopp’s reaction to the appointment

Klopp expressed his excitement at the appointment after spending “25 years on the sideline”. He further mentioned that while his role in football had changed, he remains passionate about the game and the people involved. He felt that he would be able to help develop the talents that Red Bull has by their side and use knowledge from across sports.

Speaking on what his function will be at the organization, Klopp felt he would be more like an adviser to the coaches and management of the Red Bull clubs, which he will begin on January 1, 2025. Red Bull’s CEO of Corporate Projects and Investments, Oliver Mintzlaff, also spoke about Klopp coming on board with the organization and felt it was their “biggest appointment” since Red Bull stepped into the world of soccer.
