Abujamad forest area in Thandewara district of Chhattisgarh is the largest forest area in the state of Goa. This is a Maoist dominated area. Security forces have carried out several search and hunt operations here and have captured 50 per cent of the area, i.e. around 4000 sq km.

In this case, the Special Forces Unit (DRG) engaged in Naxalite surveillance had received intelligence about the movement of Maoists in this forest area. Surrendered Maoists are also included in this unit. After this, police from various police camps started searching. At that time, yesterday at 12.30 pm, there was an exchange of fire between Maoists and police in Abujamad forest where Kowal-Nendur-Dultuli villages are located.

Police warned the Maoists to surrender. But he did not surrender and fled into the forest area. When the police chased the Maoists and opened fire, 36 Maoists were killed. AK 47, SLR rifle and cartridges were recovered from them.

The search is going on there. There was no loss of life or property to the security forces in this encounter. Thus it is considered to be one of the most successful encounters conducted by the security forces. On 3rd, 9 Naxalites including 6 women were killed in an encounter in Chhattisgarh. With this, the number of Maoists killed in encounters in Chhattisgarh this year has increased to 174. It is known that 15 security forces and 47 civilians were killed.
