Jayanti Special: APJ Abdul Kalam could not become President for the second time because of Congress, know what is the whole story?

Obnews Desk: Today i.e. Tuesday, 15 October, the country is celebrating the 93rd birth anniversary of Missile Man APJ Abdul Kalam. Hardly anyone knows about the life and achievements of Abdul Kalam. But today we are going to tell you that story which you might have hardly heard. Do you know that APJ Abdul Kalam could have become President again, but this could not happen because of Congress? Before telling the story of becoming President for the second time, let us take a brief look at his biography. Abdul Kalam was born on 15 October 1931 in Rameshwaram. His full name was Abul Pakir Zainul Abedin Abdul Kalam. Who later became famous as Missile Man. He dedicated his entire life to the field of education and science. He worked primarily as a scientist in the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

Played a big role in ISRO

After joining ISRO in 1962, Abdul Kalam successfully played his role in many satellite launch projects. Dr. Kalam made significant contribution as the Project Director for developing India's first Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV-III). SLV-III successfully launched the Rohini satellite into Earth's orbit in July 1980, after which India became a special member of the Space Club.

Abdul Kalam also sold newspapers to continue his early education. He graduated in Space Science from Madras Institute of Technology in 1950. After which he joined the Indian Defense Research and Development Institute. APJ Abdul Kalam was named Missile Man for making India self-reliant in ballistic missile and launching technology. In 1982, Kalam was made the Director of DRDL (Defence Research Development Laboratory).

Made many excellent missiles

After which Kalam, along with Dr. VS Arunachalam, scientific advisor to the then Defense Minister, prepared the proposal for Integrated Guided Missile Development Program (IGMDP). Due to this, he made many missiles for India including Prithvi, Trishul, Akash, Nag, BrahMos. The country's first missile was made under the supervision of Kalam.

Contribution in Pokhran nuclear test also

Kalam played a decisive, organizational, technical and political role in India's Pokhran-II nuclear test in 1998, the second time since India's first original nuclear test in 1974. This test made India a nuclear power. Kalam was elected President of India in 2002 with the support of both the ruling party BJP and the opposition Congress. After completing his five-year term he returned to his civilian life of education, writing and public service.

Why did Kalam not become President for the second time?

Former President APJ Abdul Kalam was up for his second term in 2012. But due to lack of support from Congress, he withdrew his steps. Historian Rajmohan Gandhi writes in his book 'Modern South India: A History from the Seventeenth Century to Our Times' – “Some political parties, including BJP and Trinamool Congress, offered Kalam a second term as President in 2012 and he Were ready, but Congress and its allies did not like this idea. Kalam did not stand in the election due to lack of numbers.

Honored with Bharat Ratna

Kalam was honored with several prestigious awards for his contributions, including the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour. He died on 27 July 2015 in Shillong. Kalam was certainly a scientist, but he had special interest in literature. He also wrote many poems. He had written many books.
