Obnews Desk: Former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Dr. Raman Singh was born on 15 October 1952 in an ordinary family of Kawardha in undivided Madhya Pradesh. This year he is celebrating his 72nd birthday. Raman Singh, who was interested in studies and leadership since childhood, demonstrated his leadership abilities right from his student days. While also being active in sports and social activities, he became a youth member of Bharatiya Jana Sangh. Due to his organizational ability and working style, he was made the President of Kawardha Youth Wing in 1976-77.

Know Dr. Raman Singh's initial steps in politics

His initial steps in politics were cemented by being elected as a member of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1990 and 1993. As an MLA in the Legislative Assembly, he demonstrated his efficient leadership, due to which the Bharatiya Janata Party fielded him from Rajnandgaon in the thirteenth Lok Sabha elections in 1999. Raman Singh won this election with a huge majority and held the important post of Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government at the Centre. He served as a Union Minister from 1999 to 2003.

Before the 2003 Chhattisgarh Assembly elections, BJP handed him the command of the state. In a very short time he strengthened the organization and BJP registered a historic victory. With this victory, Raman Singh was appointed the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. On 7 December 2003, he took oath as Chief Minister for the first time. Since then, he has been continuously serving Chhattisgarh as the Chief Minister of the state.
