After registering a resounding victory in the Jammu and Kashmir elections, National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah was today sworn in as the first Chief Minister of the Union Territory. He said that Omar Abdullah said on Wednesday that Congress is not out of the cabinet. It is for them to decide, and we are discussing with them. I will not fill all the 9 vacancies in the Council of Ministers. Some vacancies will be kept open as we negotiate with Congress. Everything is fine between NC and Congress, otherwise Kharge ji, Rahul ji and senior Congress leaders would not have come here. His presence is an indication that the alliance is strong and we will work for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Omar Abdullah took oath on Wednesday morning as the CM of the new Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, formed after the removal of Article 370. During this time everyone from Rahul Gandhi to Mallikarjun Kharge were present. Congress is supporting the National Conference government from outside. LG Manoj Sinha administered the oath to Omar Abdullah.

This has been confirmed by the chief of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC). Talking to the news agency, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee chief Tariq Hameed Karra said that the Congress party is not currently joining the ministry in the Jammu and Kashmir government.

Congress has made a strong demand from the Center to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, but statehood has not been restored to Jammu and Kashmir. We are unhappy so we are not joining the ministry at the moment, the JKPCC chief said and added that the Congress party will continue the fight to restore statehood.
