Entertainment : It is currently raining heavily in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu and many roads and areas are submerged in water. Chennai and surrounding areas are battling flood-like situation as well as traffic chaos and disruption of essential services. Not only is normal life affected due to heavy rains, superstar Rajinikanth is also facing problems due to this rain. A video from the jailed actor's residence in Chennai went viral on social media and showed his property completely submerged.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of “very heavy rainfall” across the state of Tamil Nadu, affecting Chennai and surrounding areas. Many train, flight and bus services were canceled or diverted due to bad weather. The Tamil Nadu government has declared that day a public holiday and disaster response teams are on high alert.

The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over parts of Tamil Nadu including Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu and Chennai on October 16. This is due to the cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal. Due to severe flooding in various parts of the city, rail services were disrupted and bullet trains between Chennai-Central-Mysore-Kaveri were also suspended. Domestic flights have also been canceled and many passengers have refused to travel.

The state government closed schools, universities and government offices and imposed restrictions on essential services. A total of 219 disaster teams and boats were deployed in Chennai and other areas.
