Valmiki Jayanti 2024: Schools and colleges closed in these states

New Delhi: Valmiki Jayanti is celebrated across the country with great pomp to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maharshi Valmiki, the author of the epic Ramayana. This day is one of the important Hindu religious festivals, observed in several parts of India. On October 17, all educational institutions including primary and secondary schools remain closed to mark the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti also known as Pragati Diwas.

Valmiki Jayanti 2024: School holiday tomorrow

Many state governments have declared a holiday on Valmiki Jayanti to recognise Maharshi Valmiki’s contributions to Indian literature and culture, particularly through his authorship of the Ramayana. According to sources, all government and private schools in Uttar Pradesh will remain closed on October 17 in observance of Valmiki Jayanti. Some states that have declared a public holiday for Valmiki Jayanti, also known as Pragati Diwas, include Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, and Karnataka.

Schools and colleges are likely to resume educational activities the day after tomorrow. Parents and students are advised to stay in touch with school or college authorities regarding the reopening.
