“India, Pakistan will sort out their differences before ICC Champions Trophy 2025”: ECB Chairman

England and Wales Cricket Board’s chairman, Richard Thompson, wants India to play in the Champions Trophy 2025, which is scheduled in Pakistan. He believes the stakeholders will find a way to conduct the tournament.

India and Pakistan are at loggerheads due to political issues, and the two countries have ended bilateral cricket relations.

The 58-year-old ECB chairman said he is looking forward to the decision the new ICC chairman, Jay Shah, makes regarding the ICC event.

“Cricket will be a loser if India doesn’t play in the Champions Trophy. Jay Shah, the former secretary of the BCCI, will soon take up the post of ICC head, and it will be interesting to see what he has in store for the Champions Trophy. I think the decision-makers will find a solution,” he said.

Pakistan was the host of the Asia Cup 2023, but the tournament was organized in a hybrid model after India refused to play in the neighbouring country. Sri Lanka was allotted Team India’s matches, including the final.

Thompson mentioned that issues between Pakistan and India in cricket go to the wire before a solution comes to the table.

“India and Pakistan will find a way, and India will play in the Champions Trophy. These things go to the wire as we have seen in the past.”
