We want to be a team that can score 400 runs in a day and also bat for two days to save a Test match. And that’s the growth and ability to adapt that we’re looking for. And that’s really Test cricket has a lot of people in our dressing room who can bat for two days, so if we are in a situation where we have to play for a draw then that is the second or third option. We don’t want to play any other kind of cricket. We want people to go there and play the natural game.”

The Indian head coach further said, “We will not stop people who want to play their natural game. Why do we need to stop players who can score 400-500 runs in a day? And in the context of T20 cricket I have always said that we will play high risk, high reward. There will be days when we get bowled out for 100 and then we will handle it. But we will support our players to go out there and play high risk cricket. Will continue to give. This is how we want to take the game forward and get results in whatever situation we are in.”

India and the three-match Test series will also be a part of the ICC World Test Championship. India will be eyeing a clean sweep of the Kiwi team in the Test series. This is because after this tour they have to play a Test series against Australia. By eliminating the Kiwi team, India’s path to reach the WTC final will become easier.
