Jammu and Kashmir Govt revokes order empowering LG and his administrative council

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Wednesday rescinded several orders that empowered the Lieutenant Governor of the erstwhile state as the Chairman of the Administrative Council with his Advisors, and other officers holding the powers of the Ministers in the Council.

The order was issued hours after Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah of the National Conference, took the reins of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. After a gap of six years, J&K has once again come under the rule of an elected government. The last government in the state was dissolved in 2018 when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) withdrew support from its alliance partner People’s Democratic Party (PDP).  Since then, the region has been governed by the Delhi through Governor till NC formed the government.
