Auto News Desk – India is the third largest passenger car market in the world. India has recently overtaken Japan to achieve this position, while America and China are at first and second position respectively. At the same time, Japan has lost one place. The vehicles are available in various ranges and color options in the domestic market. Customers choose their favorite car according to their utility and convenience. However, there is one particular color which the common citizen of the country cannot buy.

Cannot buy car in olive green color: According to government rules, no citizen can buy a personal vehicle in olive green color. This color option has been reserved for defense vehicles.

When did the rule come into force: In the year 1989, a new rule was added under MVA for some security reasons. As per Rule 121 (1) of the Central Motor Vehicles Act, 1989, the olive green color is reserved for defense vehicles only.

What will happen if you get caught: First of all, no OEM sells the vehicle in this particular color option. However, some people change the color with the help of coating or painting. If you do this, the vehicle can be confiscated and heavy fines can be imposed.

How to change the color of the vehicle: If you want to change the paint scheme of your vehicle, there is a legal process for it. You have to first inform the concerned RTO and get approval for the new color from there. After approval, the color on the RC of the vehicle will also be updated.

Army Vehicles: The Indian Army generally has olive green colored vehicles. At present, the army fleet has vehicles like Tata Safari and Maruti Suzuki Gypsy. Apart from this, cars like Toyota Hilux, Maruti Jimny and Mahindra Scorpio are also part of the fleet.
