Deteriorating diplomatic situation between India and Canada, there is talk of strengthening economic relations.

Washington : Relations between India and Canada have been deteriorating for some time. Due to the unprecedented diplomatic dispute between these two countries, Canada's Trade Minister Mary Ng has said a big thing on Tuesday. He has given assurance to the business community of the country. She has said that she wants to try to improve trade relations between the two countries.
“I want to assure our business community that our government is fully committed to supporting the well-established commercial relationship between Canada and India,” Ng, Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development, said in the statement.

Canadian diplomats expelled

“Our Trade Commissioner Service will continue to provide assistance and resources to Canadian companies operating in India,” he said. Ng said this at a time when India, in an unprecedented step, not only recalled its High Commission from Ottawa, but also expelled 6 Canadian diplomats from India. He said, “Let me make it clear that Canada stands firmly behind its business. “We will continue to work closely with all Canadian enterprises engaged with India to ensure that this important economic relationship remains strong.”

Consideration of economic interest

“However, we must weigh our economic interests with the need to maintain the security of Canadians and the rule of law,” Ng said. We will not tolerate acts of any foreign government that threaten, extort or harm Canadians on our soil. We urge the Government of India to respect the same principles of law and justice that guide our actions. The Minister also said that the Government of Canada is ready for dialogue with India and we look forward to continuing our valuable relationship.

deepened diplomatic dispute

According to the 'India Brand Equity Foundation', India was Canada's 9th largest trading partner in the Indo-Pacific region, 13th largest trading partner globally and 14th largest destination for business exports in 2022. It is noteworthy that the diplomatic dispute between India and Canada has deepened over the issue of killing of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Canada hinted at possible sanctions against India in view of certain findings in the case.

Bishnoi gang telegram

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had in September last year alleged the 'possible' involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Khalistani extremist Nijjar. India had rejected Trudeau's allegations as 'absurd'. After this there was tension in the relations between the two countries. Nijjar was shot dead in British Columbia in June last year. Now, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police or RCMP has alleged that the Bishnoi gang has links with 'agents' of the Indian government who are targeting the South Asian community in the country, especially “pro-Khalistan elements”.

Serious allegations against Indian government

A report by Canada's public broadcaster Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) claimed that the head of the country's national police force, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), made shocking allegations in the context of India. According to the allegations, agents of the Indian government are playing a role in “widespread violence”, including murders, in Canada. The head of the RCMP warned that it posed a “serious threat to the public safety of the country.” India has expelled 6 Canadian diplomats and announced the recall of its High Commissioner to Canada, Sanjay Kumar Verma.
