Justice Sanjeev Khanna will be the next Chief Justice of Supreme Court, CJI Chandrachud sent recommendation to the Center

Supreme Court Justice Sanjiv Khanna will be the new Chief Justice of India. Current CJI DY Chandrachud is retiring on November 11. Earlier, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud has formally proposed Justice Sanjiv Khanna as his successor.

In a letter sent to the Central government, Chief Justice Chandrachud said that since he is leaving the post on November 11, Justice Sanjin Khanna will be his successor. As per tradition, the CJI recommends the name of his successor only when he is requested to do so by the Law Ministry, due to which he has recommended the name of Justice Sanjiv Khanna for the post of CJI.

If approved by the Central Government, Justice Khanna will become the 51st Chief Justice of India. His tenure is for six months, which will end on May 13, 2025. After that he will retire.

Justice Khanna is the most senior judge

Justice Sanjiv Khanna is the first name in the seniority list. Therefore his name has been put forward. It is also worth noting that the tenure of 64 year old Justice Sanjeev Khanna as CJI is only about 6 months. Let us tell you that Justice Khanna will retire on 13 May 2025. He has given 65 judgments as a Supreme Court judge. During his tenure, he has been a part of 275 benches.

Supreme Court judge for 14 years

Talking about Justice Sanjeev Khanna, he has been a judge in Delhi High Court for 14 years. He was born on 14 May 1960. He studied law from the Campus Law Center of Delhi University. After graduation, he registered as an advocate with the Delhi Bar Council in 1983. He was elevated to the Supreme Court in 2019.
