Heavy Rainfall Warning Issued for Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala

Heavy Rainfall Warning: The depression over the west-central and southwest Bay of Bengal tracked west-northwestwards at a speed of 14 kmph during the past six hours. Early this morning, around 04:30 IST, it crossed the North Tamil Nadu – South Andhra Pradesh coasts between Puducherry and Nellore, close to Chennai, near latitude 13.5°N and longitude 80.2°E.

Following landfall, the system weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area at 05:30 IST and now lies over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and North Coastal Tamil Nadu.

The system is expected to continue its west-northwestward movement and weaken further into a low-pressure area within the next 12 hours. Here’s the weather outlook and Heavy Rainfall Warning for the affected regions:

South Peninsular India

  • South Andhra Pradesh & Rayalaseema: Light to moderate rainfall is expected in most areas, with isolated heavy rainfall on 17th October.
  • Kerala & South Interior Karnataka: These regions will see light to moderate rainfall, with isolated heavy showers on 17th October in Kerala and on 17th-18th October in South Interior Karnataka.
  • Tamil Nadu & Puducherry: Light to moderate rainfall is forecast over many places, with isolated heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on 17th and 18th October.

Heavy Rainfall Warning: Fishermen Warnings

  • Fishermen are advised to avoid venturing into the Southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal until 17th October. Those already at sea should return to the coasts for safety.

West India

  • Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada: Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected over the next five days. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Konkan & Goa and Madhya Maharashtra on 17th October.
  • Gujarat Region: Isolated light to moderate rainfall is expected over the week, with dry weather returning after two days in Saurashtra & Kutch.

East India

  • Andaman & Nicobar Islands: Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall is forecast, with isolated heavy rainfall expected from 19th to 21st October.

Northwest, Central & Northeast India

  • No significant rainfall is expected in these regions throughout the week.
