Meta laid off employees of WhatsApp, Instagram and other teams

New DelhiNew Delhi:
Social media giant Meta on Thursday laid off employees across multiple teams, including WhatsApp and Instagram, as part of an apparent restructuring exercise. Meta did not immediately comment on how many employees were affected by the latest round of job cuts. In a statement to TechCrunch, the company confirmed that several teams have faced layoffs. “Some of Meta's teams are making changes to ensure resources are aligned with their long-term strategic goals and location strategy,” a Meta spokesperson was quoted as saying.

The spokesperson said, “This includes moving some teams to different locations and moving some employees into different roles. In situations where a role is eliminated, we will look to find other opportunities for the affected employees.” Let's work hard for.” According to reports, employees working at Reality Labs, Instagram and WhatsApp have been affected by the layoffs. Several Meta employees announced on social media platforms that they had been fired.

Jane Manchun Wong, who was part of the Threads team, posted: “I'm still considering this, but I've been told that my role at Meta has been impacted. Thank you to everyone for my wonderful journey at Meta, especially Thank you to my Threads and Instagram teammates”. “If anyone is interested in working together, especially on software/security engineering, please contact me via my email given on my personal website, LinkedIn, etc.,” he wrote on the threads.

Earlier this year, Meta laid off employees in its Reality Labs division. The social media company run by Mark Zuckerberg is the first to fire 11,000 employees in 2022. In 2023, Meta laid off 10,000 more employees as part of CEO Zuckerberg's “Year of Efficiency” and took back 5,000 vacant positions that had yet to be filled.
