Barcelona eyeing four free transfer targets for 2025, including Alphonso Davies

Barcelona could be looking to sign as many as four out-of-contract players this summer, as Hansi Flick’s side look to bolster their ranks on a budget.

Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah, Atletico Madrid’s Reinildo Mandava and Lille’s Jonathan David are all options for the Catalan club, with the four players’ contracts set to end in 2025.

The pursuit of players leaving their clubs for free reflects the grim financial situation the Catalan club has faced in past years.

The Spanish giants continue to struggle with the after-effects of the Covid pandemic, alleged mismanagement of finances, and exorbitant player salaries – among others – and this has somewhat curbed their ability to sign marquee names season-in, season out over recent transfer windows.

Manager Flick will be looking to build on the club’s early league success this season, and restore it to what fans will consider its rightful place at the apex of LaLiga.

The four rumoured options would potentially offer much-needed cover for gaps in the squad – especially as six first-team stars have contracts expiring in 2026.

Pedri, Gavi, Ronald Araujo, Frankie De Jong, Andreas Christensen, Eric Garcia, Pablo Torre all could technically leave Nou Camp by the end of next season.

Full-back Alphonso Davies is a player Flick has worked with at Bayern Munich, and is believed to be a player that would give a substantial step-up in quality to the squad’s depth if he were to leave Germany.

Rivals Real Madrid are thought to be long-time admirers of the 23-year-old, although there has been little by way of contact between the two clubs regarding a transfer.

Jonathan Tah, meanwhile, could similarly provide defensive cover at centre-back, with both Araujo and Garcia’s contracts set to end in 2026.

Tah has told Leverkusen bosses he will not be renewing his contract with the club next year, and the German is believed to be a favoured transfer target for Flick.

Moving into the midfield, Atletico Madrid’s Reinildo Mandava is both capable and experienced, and could provide cover to a midfield that could be set to lose any one of Christensen, De Jong, Gavi and Pedri – although it’s likely most will trigger contract extensions in the new year.

Fresh competition for spaces will in theory boost the side’s competitiveness, as well as support ageing team members, such as superstar striker Robert Lewandowski.

Lille striker Jonathan David is one such player who could be drafted in to support the 38-year-old. It’s believed the 24-year-old Canadian international is keen to join Blaugrana, although he is being pursued by PSG.

Current transfer regulations mean the Spanish giants cannot enquire about players until January 1, 2025.
