These rules related to railways will be implemented from November 1, crores of passengers will benefit.

New Delhi: There is good news for railway passengers. Railways has changed the rules of waiting tickets. Now you can book tickets 60 days in advance instead of 120 days. According to the notification issued by the Railway Ministry on Thursday, the time limit for advance reservation has now been reduced from 120 days to 60 days. This system will come into effect from November 1.

However, there will be no change in the case of daytime express trains like Taj Express and Gomti Express. The advance reservation time limit for these trains is already short. Also, there will be no change in the case of 365 day limit for foreign tourists.

According to the arrangements so far, passengers can reserve their seats four months in advance. Tatkal tickets can be booked one day before the date of journey. Booking for upper class with 3 AC starts after 10 am every day while Sleeper Tatkal booking starts from 11 am.

However, if the tickets have already been booked before November 1, the new rules for advance train ticket booking will have no impact on those bookings. Following this development, IRCTC shares were trading 2.2% lower at Rs 867.60 at 14:20 pm. Every day 12.38 lakh tickets are booked through IRCTC.

As of April 1, 2015, the advance reservation period was 60 days. But then the government increased it to 120 days. The reasoning behind this was that this would discourage brokers as they would have to pay higher cancellation charges. However, the opposition claimed that Railways had done this to increase its income. With this, Railways will earn more interest on cancellation as well as interest for additional 60 days.
