Pant will not be the captain of Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025? Star all-rounder will get leadership!

Delhi: Delhi Capitals (DC) captain and star wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant's recent social media post created a lot of buzz when he asked on Meanwhile, reports are coming that before Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, DC team management is looking for a new captain in place of Pant.

According to sources, the team's leading all-rounder Akshar Patel can be made the captain in place of Pant. Times of India quoted a source as saying, “Delhi Capitals is in search of a new captain. Akshar Patel can be a strong candidate for this role. Apart from this, the franchise is also keeping an eye on any new player in the IPL auction, who is suitable for captaincy.

However, Pant is certain to be retained from the DC team. According to reports, the franchise believes that Pant can perform better by being free from the pressure of captaincy, which will be beneficial for the team. The performance of the franchise in IPL 2024 was not good enough to reach the playoffs. Under the captaincy of Pant, the team stood sixth with 14 points.

As far as Rishabh's individual performance is concerned, he scored 446 runs in 13 matches in IPL 2024, in which his average was 40.55 and strike rate was 155.40. He also scored 3 half-centuries. So far in his IPL career, the left-handed batsman has scored 3,284 runs in 111 matches at an average of 35.31 and strike rate of 148.93, which includes 1 century and 18 half-centuries.

Performance of Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024

DC team won 7 matches in IPL 2024 and had to face defeat in the same number of matches. The team's net run rate (-0.377) was poor, due to which it was out of the race for the playoffs.
