Bengaluru Test: Second day's play ends, New Zealand takes lead of 134 runs

Bengaluru, 17 October (Hindustan Reporter). The play of the second day of the first Test of the three-match series being played between India and New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru has ended. After the Indian team was all out for 46 runs in the first innings, the New Zealand batsmen batted well and scored 180 runs losing 3 wickets by the end of the game on Thursday. The visiting team has achieved a lead of 134 runs. Rachin Ravindra is unbeaten on 22 runs and Daryl Mitchell is unbeaten on 14 runs.

After bowling out India on a low score in the first innings, the New Zealand team, who came to bat, got a good start in the first innings from opener Devon Conway and captain Tom Latham. Both of them took the lead over the Indian team by taking the team's score beyond 50 runs. Kuldeep Yadav took New Zealand's first wicket. He trapped captain Tom Latham LBW. Latham scored 15 runs. After this Conway took the innings forward with Will Young. Conway scored runs quickly and completed his half-century in 54 balls. New Zealand's second wicket fell in the form of Will Young. Young returned to the pavilion after scoring 33 runs on 73 balls. Batting brilliantly from the other end, Conway, who was moving towards a century, was bowled by Ravichandran Ashwin and gave India a big success. Conway scored 91 runs in 105 balls with the help of 11 fours and three sixes. After this, no more wickets of the visiting team fell till the end of the day's play. The team has scored 180 runs for 3 wickets and its lead has increased to 134 runs.

For the Indian team, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took one wicket each.

Earlier, the Indian team's first innings against New Zealand was limited to only 46 runs. For India, Rishabh Pant scored the maximum 20 runs, while five batsmen could not even open the account and three batsmen could not even touch the three-run mark. After the first day was washed out due to rain, Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first on the second day on Thursday. However, his decision proved wrong. The Indian team had a very bad start. On Chinnaswamy's pitch, the ball of the Kiwi fast bowlers was swinging and also bouncing, due to which the Indian batsmen were facing a lot of trouble.

Tim Southee gave the first blow to India by bowling captain Rohit Sharma (02). After this, Virat Kohli (0) and Sarfaraz Khan could not even open the account. Kohli was sent to the pavilion by William O'Rourke and Sarfaraz by Matt Henry. After this Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal made a small partnership of 21 runs. On the total score of 31, O'Rourke gave the third blow to India by dismissing Jaiswal (13). After Jaiswal's dismissal, KL Rahul (0) and Ravindra Jadeja (0) also walked out. Rahul was made his victim by O'Rourke and Jadeja by Matt Henry. India lost 6 wickets for only 34 runs till lunch. After lunch, Indian batting could not last long and after adding only 12 runs, the remaining 4 batsmen also returned to the pavilion. From India, only Rishabh Pant (20) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (13) could touch double figures, while Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin could not even open the account. For New Zealand, Matt Henry took 5 wickets, while William O'Rourke took 4 wickets, while Tim Southee got 1 wicket.
