Nawaz Sharif convinces Maulana Fazlur Rehman for cooperation in judicial reform package

Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif finally convinced Maulana Fazlur Rehman of JUI-F for cooperation on the issue of judicial reform package. After midnight on Wednesday, Maulana Fazlur Rehman told journalists that consensus has been reached on some points. Have reached close to consensus on some issues.

According to Dawn newspaper, this issue was agreed upon in a meeting held at Nawaz Sharif's residence on Wednesday night. The meeting was prominently attended by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, JUI-F's Maulana Fazlur Rehman, President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. However, PTI's cooperation is still needed to achieve full consensus on the constitutional amendments.

In the meeting, leaders of the three parties discussed the amendments in detail. After midnight a press conference was held to inform about the outcome of the meeting. JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said consensus has been reached on some points and the three parties are close to consensus on some issues. He sounded optimistic and said they were moving toward a consensus. He said, “After reaching Islamabad, I will talk to PTI about the proposed amendments. The amendments will be brought to strengthen the institutions. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said the amendment would be passed in Parliament after appropriate time.

Meanwhile, PML-N leader Ishaq Dar said that a consensus has been reached between the three parties on judicial reforms. But Maulana Fazal is reportedly adamant on his demand for a constitutional bench of the Supreme Court instead of a separate court as proposed. The meeting was attended by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Punjab Governor Salim Haider Khan, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, senior Punjab Minister Maryam Aurangzeb and PPP's Naveed.
