Two leaders close to Sheikh Hasina and a former bureaucrat arrested in Bangladesh

Former Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumdar, former Home Secretary Jahangir Alam and former Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzaq, close to ousted Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, were arrested in two cases registered at Mohammadpur and Adbor police stations.

According to Bangladeshi newspaper The Daily Star, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MD Ali Haider passed the arrest order on the request of Mohammedpur police station sub-inspector Rakib Hasan to produce Jahangir and Sadhan Chandra in court. Both are accused of attempting to murder Ismail Kayesh alias Faisal during the protest on July 19. On September 24, Kayesh had filed a case against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sadhan, Jahangir and 56 others at Mohammadpur police station.


Members of the detective branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police had arrested Sadhan Chandra from Bashundhara residential area of ​​the capital on October 3. Former Election Commission Secretary Jahangir Alam was also arrested from Gulshan area of ​​Dhaka on October 1. Meanwhile, Abdur Razzaq was arrested on August 5 in connection with the death of MD Rubel, a garment worker, on Edbor Ring Road.
