Indian Foreign Ministry slammed Trudeau, said- Canadian PM will be solely responsible for the damage caused to the relations between the two countries.

New Delhi: India and Canada's rhetoric against each other continues. After Justin Trudeau's statement, the Indian Foreign Ministry has issued a statement and given a befitting reply to the Canadian government. The Foreign Ministry on Thursday said Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's admission before his country's commission of inquiry that there was no concrete evidence against India in the murder case of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar confirms its firm stand that Canada did not provide us with any concrete evidence to support the serious allegations made against India and Indian diplomats.

Trudeau acknowledged before the commission of inquiry on Wednesday that when he alleged the involvement of Indian government agents in the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar last year, he had only intelligence information and no concrete evidence. The Foreign Ministry issued a statement early today in response to questions from media persons regarding Trudeau's statement.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that what we have heard today confirms what we have been saying continuously that Canada has not provided any evidence in support of the serious allegations made against India and Indian diplomats. Evidence has not been presented. He further said that Prime Minister Trudeau alone will be responsible for the damage caused to India-Canada relations by this careless behavior.

Targeted at PM Modi

Testifying on Wednesday before the public inquiry into foreign interference in federal electoral processes and democratic institutions, Trudeau had claimed that Indian diplomats were collecting information on Canadians who disagree with the Narendra Modi government. They were passing it on to high-level officials of the Government of India and criminal organizations like the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

Rejected Trudeau's allegations

India strongly rejected attempts by Canadian authorities to link Indian agents to criminal gangs in Canada. Official sources in New Delhi said Canada's claim that it has shared evidence with India in the Nijjar case is completely false. However, sources in New Delhi also rejected those earlier allegations of Trudeau. India is involved in other activities including carrying out covert operations targeting Canadian citizens in their country.

What happened recently between the two countries?

India expelled six Canadian diplomats on Monday. Rejected Canada's allegations linking the Indian ambassador to the investigation into Nijjar's murder. It had also announced the recall of its High Commissioner from the country. On the other hand, Canada has also said that the increase in diplomatic dispute between India and Canada could lead to further deterioration in the already poor relations between the two countries.

Relations between the two countries came under severe strain last September after Trudeau alleged the possible involvement of Indian agents in Nijjar's murder. India had rejected Trudeau's allegations as baseless. India says that the main issue between the two countries is that Canada is giving shelter to pro-Khalistan elements operating from its soil without any hindrance. Let us tell you that Nijjar, declared a terrorist by India, was shot dead outside a Gurudwara in Surrey, British Columbia on June 18 last year.
