New Delhi: In the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, it has been announced to increase dearness allowance for central employees and pensioners. The government has decided to increase it by 3%, after which it has increased from 50 percent to 53%. The increase in DA and DR will be implemented from July 1, 2024.

More than one crore central employees and pensioners will benefit from the decision taken in the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. Meanwhile, five state governments have also announced increase in dearness allowance for government employees. DA hike will provide financial relief to employees amid rising inflation.

DA hike before Diwali and 3% increase in dearness relief for pensioners will be effective from July 1, 2024. Along with the increased salary for the month of October, three months' arrears will also be given to employees and pensioners. The Odisha government has approved a 4% increase in dearness allowance for employees working in the public sector of the state. They are receiving salary based on the revised pay scale of 2017. After this increase, DA has increased from 46% to 50%. It has been implemented from January 1, 2024.

On the occasion of Dussehra, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu announced a 4% increase in dearness allowance for government employees and pensioners. It will be implemented from January 1, 2023. Apart from this, outstanding medical bills of government employees and pension arrears for pensioners above 75 years of age will be settled immediately.

Jharkhand government has increased the dearness allowance for government employees by 9%. Earlier the employees were getting DA of 230% under the Sixth Central Pay Commission. In the new salary increase it has been increased to 239%. Which will be made effective by the government from January 1, 2024.

Before Diwali, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai announced a 4% increase in dearness allowance for state government employees. After this the total dearness allowance has increased to 50%. Sikkim government has announced a 4% increase in dearness allowance for its employees before the Durga Puja festival. State government employees will get 50% DA instead of 46% from January 1, 2024.
