The history of these rivers is more than 50 million years old, it will be difficult to believe.

New Delhi: The history of the Himalayas is more than 50 million years old, but you will be surprised to know that there are some rivers flowing in our country which are even older than this. More than 200 rivers flow in India, but some of these rivers have a huge history within them. Many people do not even know about these rivers.

It is surprising to hear that there are rivers older than the Himalayas! Yes, but it is true. The history of rivers like Alaknanda, Jhelum and Indus goes back even before the formation of the Himalayas. Let us know how.

A major tributary of the Ganga River, the Alaknanda originates at the confluence of the Satopanth and Bhagirathi glaciers in the Himalayas. Let us tell you that this river flows through Badrinath Dham and joins Bhagirathi river in Devprayag and flows as Ganga. Jhelum, a major tributary of the Indus River, originates from Sheshnag Lake in Jammu and Kashmir. This river flows through Srinagar city and finally joins the Indus River. The history of this river is older than the Himalayas.

Also, Indus River originates from Mansarovar Lake in Tibet. This river flows through India and Pakistan and then finally joins the Arabian Sea. Although today some of these rivers originate from the Himalayas, their origin is considered to be older than the formation of the Himalayas.
