Hemang Badani Appointed as Delhi Capitals Head Coach for IPL 2025

Former India cricketer Hemang Badani has been appointed as Delhi Capitals head coach and will take over the role after Ricky Ponting was named as PBKS head coach ahead of IPL 2025.

Badani has worked with Brian Lara in Sunrisers Hyderabad which will be his first assignment as head coach of the IPL team.

The former Tamil Nadu-based cricketer played four tests and 40 ODIs between 2001 and 2004 and also scored an ODI century against Australia during the 2001 bilateral series.

Meanwhile, Venugopal has been named as the director of cricket and will be replacing Sourav Ganguly in the franchise.

“It’s my absolute honour to be joining Delhi Capitals, and I’m deeply grateful to our owners for trusting me with the job. With the mega auction around the corner, my job, in collaboration with the rest of our coaching staff, is cut out. I can’t wait to get started,” said Badoni.

“We are delighted to welcome Hemang and Venu to Delhi Capitals. Both have been an integral part of our team for a long time, and we’re excited to have them on board in a different role.”

“With their proven track record as coaches, we’re confident that their expertise will be invaluable in helping us achieve our objectives and drive success for Delhi Capitals,” said Kiran Kumar Grandhi.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Capitals franchise is likely to retain Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

With October 31 being the deadline for the franchise to reveal retentions, Rishabh Pant‘s future with the team remains uncertain. With the reports suggesting the franchise will retain Pant, it cannot be said further for sure.
