Meet Indian genius, who worked with NASA on Rs 737000000000 project, she is from…

Among these distinguished individuals is Hashima Hasan, a renowned scientist at NASA. She serves as the Deputy Program Scientist for the James Webb Space Telescope and leads the Education and Public Outreach efforts for Astrophysics. Hashima Hasan was born in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow.

The Lucknow-based Hashima Hasan has made significant contributions to NASA’s groundbreaking projects, including both the James Webb and Hubble Space Telescopes. Before joining NASA in 1994, she worked as the Optical Telescope Assembly Scientist at the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, USA. Furthermore, she played a key role in the James Webb Space Telescope project, which launched in December 2021 with a budget of approximately USD 10 billion (around Rs. 73,700 crore at the time). She secured her doctorate in Theoretical Nuclear Physics from the University of Oxford in 1976.

Hashima’s journey to the United States began after her marriage. Her husband, also a scientist, secured a position at Johns Hopkins University, while Hashima joined the Space Telescope Science Institute. There, she worked on the optics for the Hubble Space Telescope, marking the beginning of her illustrious career in astronomy. Through her expertise and dedication, she continues to shape the future of space exploration, bringing pride to India and inspiring future generations.
