Indian men’s junior hockey team has traveled to Malaysia to take part in the Sultan of Johor Cup invitational tournament and will be starting the campaign tomorrow under new coach PR Sreejesh.

Beginning on October 19, India will face off against host Malaysia, Japan, Great Britain, Australia, and New Zealand and hope to make it to the final scheduled for October 26.

India finished third in the last edition after losing to Germany in the semi-finals and defeating Pakistan in a tense shoot-out. Earlier in 2022, India defeated Australia in a shootout to win the title.

The Indian team will be led by defender Amir Ali who attracted huge bids in the recently concluded Hockey India League auctions with Shardanand Tiwari, Gurjot Singh, and Rohit being the players to watch out for.

“The team has been training well under the new head coach PR Sreejesh and we are excited to play our first tournament with him. After losing to Germany last time, we were unable to retain our crown but this time we are better equipped and ready to take on any team in the competition.,” captain Amir Ali said in a release.
