Sanjay Manjrekar: India’s knack for comebacks worries New Zealand in Bengaluru test

Sanjay Manjrekar said that New Zealand would be worried after India’s sensational comeback on Day 3 of the first Test in Bengaluru on Friday, October 18. Recalling India’s win in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 against South Africa, Manjrekar said that the sub-continent team has a knack for making comebacks.

Having dismissed India for 46 on Day 2, the Kiwis posted 402 and took a lead of 356 runs courtesy of Rachin Ravindra’s 134. Tim Southee also amassed 65. India were 231/3 at the stumps, with captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Sarfaraz Khan hitting fifties.

“If I were NZ, I would be slightly worried about India’s strong reply. This Indian team has a great knack for coming back. Only recently did SA need 30 off 30 balls in the WT20 finals; remember that comeback? #INDvNZ.”

Facing a tough challenge, Yashasvi Jaiswal (35) and Rohit (52) added 72 runs for the first wicket in the second innings. Kohli (70) and Sarfaraz (70*) stitched a partnership of 136 for the third wicket.

Speaking of India’s performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup final, the Men in Blue were almost out of the contest, with Heinrich Klaasen hitting fours and sixes. However, Hardik dismissed him and brought his team back into the contest. Hardik then got rid of David Miller with Suryakumar Yadav taking a stunning catch near the boundary in the last over, and the Proteas lost the final.
