VVS Laxman confident about team India winning the first test against Blackcaps

VVS Laxman mentioned that despite the team trailing at the stumps during the second innings against New Zealand by 125 runs, with seven wickets still intact, he believes that the team will come back to win the Test match.

“I know Sarfaraz (Khan) is batting pretty well. In fact, I believe Virat (Kohli) was still in when we spoke to him last,” VVS Laxman told PTI just before Kohli eventually fell out of the crease.

“We have strong belief; when I say we, you know, whether it is me and other past players, or Gautam (Gambhir) who is the head coach now, or Rohit who is the captain, all those who are representing the country have the potential to do wonders.”

“I think I can say with quite a bit of confidence that each and every one of them (batters) will step out with just one thought process, one attitude which is that – can I help or contribute to the country, can I step out and simply get 100-150 runs for my bowlers’ sake.”

“In case the bowlers are able to get 150 runs and in my team (India) those are my bowlers, trust me we are winning this Test match,” Laxman said.

The former batter is optimistic about the Indian tweakers orchestrating a performance in the last inning.

“The ball is turning, gripping and we (have) got three beautiful, world class spinners. Whoever is going out to bat will go with that mindset,” he added.

Laxman said that it is important to trust your strength in difficult situations, as Sarfaraz Khan did when he scored an unbeaten 78-ball 70, for example.

Before coming here, I saw Sarfaraz hit a lovely six over point, he said. “When you’re in a pressure darkness, and you’re faced with the task, impossible as it may be, can you rely on your strengths?”

“Sarfaraz, Yashasvi (Jaiswal) and Rohit did not hold back in playing their natural game. As for the outcome (is) quite indefinite for several, but the approach and the mindset , can they be predicted, yes.

“Because that is within reach and I can assure you that every person will go out in that manner,” he stated.
