Cristiano Ronaldo scores 97th winner to continue dream scoring run for Al Nassr

New Delhi: It is Cristiano Ronaldo again who has the decisive goal for Al-Nassr, as the Portuguese captain delivered the last-minute penalty for his team. The 97th-minute goal helped Al-Nassr win 2-1 against Al-Shabab in the Saudi Pro League after Aymeric Laporte helped open the deadlock in the 69th minute.

However, after Ali Alhassan made an own goal in the 90th minute, it looked like the game was heading for a draw. Despite this, the visitors were constantly pressing for a win. In the seventh minute of the stoppage time, Al-Nassr earned a penalty, which the 39-year-old took responsibility for and delivered as always.

Being on the back foot, Al-Shabad launched a counter-attack and soon were awarded a penalty through VAR review. Unlike Ronaldo, Al-Shabab’s Abderrazak Hamdallah wasn’t able to find his shot on target, hitting the post as Al-Nassr prevailed in the game, taking home a much-deserved three points.

Ronaldo in the Saudi Pro League

With this goal, Ronaldo has 55 goals and 15 assists from his 54 appearances for the Saudi Pro League club, having joined the side from Manchester United in 2023. He has been frequenting the back of the net ever since crossing the 900-goal mark across national and international goal count and currently has 907 goals. In the 2023-24 season, Cristiano Ronaldo scored 35 goals from 31 appearances and was the Golden Boot winner as Al-Nassr ended as runners-up in the season.

Playing one of the strongest teams, Al-Shabab, who were just a couple of points behind Al-Nassr and Ronaldo’s team, needed to win the game in order to stay in contention for the title. Currently, Al-Hilal are leading the title race with 21 points thanks to their seven consecutive wins in the season. Al-Nassr are second in the race with 17 points, with Al-Ittihad following them closely, and a win this weekend would put them one point ahead of Al-Nassr.
