Born on July 20, 1927, in the city of Sialkot (present-day Pakistan), Rajendra Kumar is one of the biggest superstars in the history of Indian cinema. He first tasted success when three of his films Aakhri Khat, Raaz, and Aurat were a major hit. Then his super-stardom arouse with Shakti Samantha’s Aradhana in 1969. Later, he went on to give 17 hits in a row and earned the sobriquet of Jubliee star, because his films started running in theatres for 25 weeks.

Some of his blockbusters include Mughal-E-Azam, Ayee Milan Ki Bela, Mere Mehboob, Aas Ka Panchhi, Gharana and more. However, Kumar's stardom was short lived. After having a critical and commercial failure in Mazdoor Zindabaad, he starred in films, such as Daku Aur Mahatma, Shirdi Ke Sai Baba, Sone Ka Dil Lohe Ke Haath, Aahuti, Saajan Bina Suhagan and Bin Phere Hum Tere, none of which performed well. at the box office.

From mid-1970s, Rajendra Kumar started seeing a massive decline in his superstardom. There was a period when he went bankrupt and was forced to sell his bungalow to Rajesh Khanna for Rs 60,000. It was said that the bungalow he used to live in changed his destiny and made him a superstar.

At the age of 68, Rajendra Kumar started experiencing a debilitating illness. However, he used to refuse taking any medication and died at the age of 71 in 1999. Rajendra Kumar passed away due to cardiac arrest in his sleep, just a day after his son’s 43rd birthday and 8 days before his 73rd birthday.
