Serving the countrymen living outside India is the top priority of our government: President Murmu

Indian President Draupadi Murmu, who reached Malawi on the last leg of her trip to three African countries, said that the welfare of her countrymen living outside India is the top priority of her government. His Government is committed to working with our partners across the world to address the concerns of Indians and ensure their security, welfare and prosperity.

He said India values ​​its partnership with the African continent based on the principles of mutual trust, equality, and mutual benefit. Our model of cooperation with Africa is to utilize local resources and build capacity. This is based on prioritizing the needs of Africa. President Murmu said that as a leading member of the Global South, India takes seriously its role of representing the interests of two-thirds of the world's population. It is a pleasure to be present among you all in Malawi.


India and Malawi have completed 60 years of diplomatic relations. These relations are historical. India also has deep cultural ties with Malawi. President Draupadi Murmu was warmly welcomed by Malawi President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera at the State House. The two leaders discussed strengthening India-Malawi relations and a number of other issues. President Draupadi Murmu visits the National War Memorial in Lilongwe. He paid floral tributes to the soldiers and civilians who sacrificed their lives during the First and Second World Wars and other military operations. The President also paid tribute to the Indian soldiers whose sacrifices have been highlighted in this memorial. President Murmu also laid wreath at the mausoleum of Malawi's first President, Dr. Hastings Kamuzu.
