Zaira Wasim, Meher Vij, and Raj Arjun played the main parts in the 2017 musical drama Secret Superstarwhich was produced by Aamir Khan. He played the conceited music director Shakti Kumar in the movie, which marked his guest appearance. Social concerns like feminism, gender equality, and domestic abuse were discussed in Secret Superstar. A teenage girl, who wanted to be a singer, posted videos on YouTube while hiding her identity was the subject of the film. Secret Superstar also explored her relationships with her mother, father, and mentor.

Secret Superstar was one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films when it first came out because of the positive reception it got from the public. The film was released in China on January 19, 2019. A revenue-sharing arrangement was devised by the producers following the tremendous success of Aamir’s last movie, Dangal. It became the second highest-grossing Indian picture abroad after the inspirational sports biopic. Zaira Wasim’s film became the second-highest-grossing non-English international film ever and the sixth highest-grossing foreign film in China after Dangal. According to Sacnilk, despite having a reported budget of Rs 15 crores, the film made Rs 912 crores globally. With a return on investment (ROI) of over 6,000%, Secret Superstar became one of the most profitable movies ever made.
