At the age of 39 years and 40 days, he played in a match against Celta Vigo, surpassing the previous record holder Ferenc Puskás. Puskas played his last match in 1966 at the age of 39 years and 36 days.

Apart from this, in this match Luca also achieved his 250th win in La Liga. He achieved this milestone in his 369th La Liga match for Real Madrid. Luca joined the club in 2012 and has since scored 28 goals as the club have won the La Liga title four times (2017, 2020, 2022 and 2024).

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti (65) has also praised midfielder Luka Modric. He had said, “It is an honor for me to work with Modric. Whatever he has achieved is the result of his hard work and excellent professionalism.”

Modric's record is quite impressive, but the title of being the oldest player in the history of the Champions League is held by Italian goalkeeper Marco Balotta, who played at the age of 43 years and 252 days. In La Liga, the oldest player is England's Harry Lowe, who was 48 when he played for Real Sociedad in 1935.
