BJP releases first list of 99 candidates for Maharashtra Assembly elections, many big names including Fadnavis included

New Delhi. Bharatiya Janata Party has released the first list of its candidates for the Maharashtra Assembly elections. Names of 99 candidates have been announced in this list. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has been fielded from Nagpur South-West and party state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule from Kamathi Assembly seat.

Fadnavis' seat Nagpur South-West: Record of consecutive wins
Among the 99 seats on which BJP has fielded candidates, the most prominent is Nagpur South-West seat, from where Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis will contest. This seat did not exist before 2008, but Fadnavis has won this seat continuously in the elections from 2009 to 2019.

Bawankule's reserved seat Kamathi

BJP state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule will contest from Kamathi seat. Currently, BJP's Tekchand Savarkar is the MLA from this seat. Bawankule has won elections from this seat thrice, due to which it is considered to be his safe seat.

Ashok Chavan's daughter Shrijaya also got ticket

Shrijaya Ashok Chavan, daughter of former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, has also been given ticket this time. She will contest from her father's traditional Bhokar seat. The seat has been an important stronghold for the Chavan family.

Tickets cut for sitting MLAs

After the release of BJP's list, information has come to light that tickets of many sitting MLAs have been canceled. The ticket of Kalyan East MLA Ganpat Gaikwad, who is an accused in the firing case, has been cut and his wife Sulabha Gaikwad has been made the candidate.

This time BJP has also taken special care of women candidates in its list. Apart from Sulabha and Srijaya, the party has fielded Shweta Vidyadhar Mahale from Chikhli, Meghna Bordikar from Jintur, Anuradhatai Atul Chavan from Phulambari, Seematai Mahesh Gire from Nashik West, Manda Vijay Mhatre from Belapur, Manisha Ashok Choudhary from Dahisar, Vidya Jaiprakash Thakur from Goregaon, Madhuri Satish Mishal from Parvati, Monica Rajeev Rajle from Shevgaon, Pratibha Pachpute from Srigonda and Namita Mundhra from Cage have been given tickets.

BJP had lost seats in 2019

In the 2019 elections, BJP had contested 152 seats and the then undivided Shiv Sena was given 124 seats. The BJP had won 105 seats, a loss of 17 seats compared to 2014. This time too, BJP is preparing to contest elections on more than 100 seats, although the final decision on seat sharing in Mahayuti is yet to come.
