Indian smartphone market grew by 9% in the third quarter

However, the company's market share declined from 18 percent last year to 17 percent in the third quarter of 2024.

Samsung, which was once the top smartphone brand in India, slipped to third place, seeing a 4 percent decline in shipments to 7.5 million units in Q3 2024 from 7.9 million units in Q3 2023. According to Canalys, its market share also declined from 18 percent in Q3 2023 to 16 percent in Q3 2024.

While Vivo led the smartphone shipments, its sister BBK Electronics brand Oppo recorded the maximum year-on-year growth in shipments of 43 percent. It sold 6.3 million units in the three months to September this year, representing a 13 per cent market share, compared to 4.4 million units sold in the same period last year, representing a 10 per cent share.

Sanyam Chaurasia, senior analyst at Canalys, said, “Both Vivo and Oppo leveraged their expanded online portfolios, including the T3 and K12 series, to drive volumes beyond their traditionally strong offline channels.
