Latest News :- After the Central Defense Department and Railways, the Waqf Board has control over most of the land in the country. The Waqf Act was enacted in Parliament in 1954 to monitor these properties. After this, Waqf boards were established in all the states. The final Act of 1995 was then expanded. In such a situation, the ruling BJP government at the Center decided to bring amendments in the Waqf Act to improve the administrative activities of the Waqf Board and to solve the problems related to the Waqf Board. Accordingly, Union Minority Welfare Minister Kiren Rijiju introduced the new Vakboo Act Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha.

Various opposition leaders and Muslim organizations have strongly opposed this. After this the bill was sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee for scrutiny. This joint committee meets from time to time and discusses the Waqf Amendment Bill. In this matter, this committee met again in Delhi yesterday and consulted. But many opposition MPs boycotted the meeting alleging that the meeting was not held as per the rules. Congress party's Gaurav Gogai, Imran Masood, Shiv Sena's (Uddhav wing) Arvind Sawant, DMK's A Raza, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, Samajwadi Party's Mohibullah, Aam Aadmi's Sanjay Singh Akiyur boycotted the meeting.

He also stressed that the meeting should be conducted as per rules. However, after an hour the opposition MPs joined the meeting. The opposition MPs have also decided to complain to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla over the improper conduct of the Parliamentary Joint Committee meeting. Earlier, MPs from opposition parties had also walked out of the meeting held last Monday.
