Can the new rule of bank holidays on Saturday and Sunday be implemented soon?

It is often seen in many companies that employees work five days a week and rest on Saturday and Sunday. Now this same facility can be available to the employees of banks also.

Employees of banks have long demanded to work five days a week and take two days off. Now this change may soon be implemented in private and government banks, and rapid efforts are being made in this direction. A consensus has been reached on this issue between the Indian Bank Confederation and bank employee unions.

At present, banks get holiday on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, but have to work on the remaining two Saturdays. Since 2015, banks had demanded a holiday on every Saturday. If the government approves this proposal, there will be a change in the working hours of banks along with it. At present banks open from 10 am to 5 pm, but if the new rule is implemented, banks will work from 9:45 am to 5:30 pm. This would mean that employees would have to work an extra 45 minutes every day.

In 2015, the government had implemented the rule of bank holiday on the second and fourth Saturday of the month under an agreement between RBI and IBA. Since then many organizations are demanding a holiday on every Saturday and Sunday. Now this has been agreed upon and the final approval from the government is awaited. It is believed that the government will take a final decision on this at the end of this year or the beginning of next year.
