Manoj Tiwary Slams India for Not Picking Aakash Deep Against NZ

Manoj Tiwary Slams India For Not Picking Aakash Deep: Former cricketer Manoj Tiwary slammed Team India for not including seamer Akash Deep in the playing XI of the first Test against New Zealand. In the match, India suffered a humiliating 8-wicket loss against the visitors.

The pitch in the India vs New Zealand first innings extensively supported pace bowlers over the spinners. New Zealand seamers destroyed India by taking a whopping 17 wickets out of 20 which led the hosts to get all out for 46 in their first innings, their lowest Test score at home.

Akash Deep, who was terrific in the Test series against Bangladesh, which India had won with a whitewash, surprisingly couldn’t find his place in the Test series against Bangladesh.

As he was expected to get picked for the New Zealand Test, his exclusion would negatively impact his confidence, according to Manoj Tiwary. He was talking to Cricbuzz after the match.

“Akash Deep performed impressively against Bangladesh. His confidence level was high. He never would have imagined not playing the first Test in those conditions. He must have been left shocked not seeing his name in the playing XI. But he is certain to bounce. You also have Mayank Yadav in Bengaluru with the team, right after featuring in the T20I series. Players like him should have been used.”

“I believe that if you have a bowler who is in rhythm, is picking wickets in international and domestic cricket, and has that X factor as well, pick him in the squad and play him. Siraj has not picked a single wicket in the second innings in Tests this year, which is quite concerning. He should have been rested for a few games, so that he gets the time to focus on the basics and work on his release. We have a lot of back-up bowlers,” he added.

India will play the second Test against New Zealand on October 24 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune.
