Kagiso Rabada achieves milestone in South Africa’s first test against Bangladesh

Kagiso Rabada achieved a significant record on Day 1 of the first Test between Bangladesh and South Africa at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka on Monday, October 21. He is the sixth South African bowler to take 300 Test wickets, joining Dale Steyn, Shaun Pollock, Morne Morkel, Makhaya Ntini,  and Allan Donald on the lite list.

Mushfiqur Rahim was his 300th scalp in the most extended format of the game. The pacer delivered a good length delivery that came in sharply and disturbed the stumps.

Rabada is also the third fastest Proteas bowler after Dale Steyn and Allan Donald to take 300 wickets in a five-day format.

He achieved the milestone in his 65th Test. On the other hand, Steyn reached the 300-wicket mark in the 61st Test and Donald in the 63rd Test.

Most Test wickets for South Africa

Dale Steyn – 439 wickets in 93 matches
Shaun Pollock – 421 wickets in 108 matches
Makhaya Ntini – 390 wickets in 101 matches
Allan Donald – 330 wickets in 72 matches
Morne Morkel – 309 wickets in 86 matches
Kagiso Rabada – 300* wickets in 65 matches

Earlier, Kagiso Rabada took 8 wickets in two matches against the West Indies. He made his debut against India in 2015 and has become one of the best speedsters in world cricket. In the fourth Test against England in 2016, he took 13 wickets, making him the youngest South African pacer to take a ten-wicket haul in a Test match.

In 2018, Rabada became the number one bowler in the ICC Test Rankings. He also became the youngest bowler to take 150 wickets at 23 years and 50 days, going past Harbhajan Singh’s record in 2018.

In 2018, Rabada took the most wickets in Tests by any bowler, with 52 scalps. He can swing the ball both ways, and his pace is also a nightmare for batters across formats.
