Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur included in Women's T20 World Cup tournament squad

New Delhi, October 22 (IANS). The journey of the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 was not memorable for the Indian women's team and once again the Australian team seemed to dominate India. However, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur has been included in the squad for the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 tournament.

This team includes three players each from champion New Zealand and runner-up South Africa. Whereas, players from West Indies, Bangladesh, England and Australia are also part of it.

Although the Indian team could not reach the semi-finals under her captaincy, Harmanpreet scored 150 runs in four matches in the tournament and was out only once in four innings. The right-handed batsman also scored unbeaten half-centuries against Sri Lanka and Australia in Dubai and Sharjah respectively.

The team also included New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr, who won the Player of the Match as well as Player of the Tournament trophy in the final.

Amelia, 24, took 15 wickets, the most by any player in a single edition of the Women's T20 World Cup. He also scored 135 runs, including 43 in the final, helping New Zealand win the trophy for the first time.

Australian fast bowler Megan Shutt has also been selected in this team after becoming the highest wicket-taker in the history of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup.

Megan took eight wickets in this tournament to take her tally of wickets to 48, which includes the figure of (3-3) against New Zealand. His economy rate in the tournament was 4.07.
